Simon Sushi

Simon Sushi
409 Spadina Ave.

After 2 days online it’s time to post the first review! It’s a fairly nice saturday and apparently “Comic Book Day” or somesuch. Good enough excuse for me to head down to the Silver Snail and buy another Judge Dredd compilation. Grab some groceries in Chinatown, and hey, there’s a Sushi place up here that I pass on my way to work every day. Why not check it out?

It’s a nice place. A little rough around the edges in a few places, could use a new coat of paint, but that usually means “busy restaurant” and busy generally means that the locals approve. Besides, I used to work at Sanctuary and that place was a dump. Good music though.

Since I was on Spadina ave, I figured it to be apropos to order the Spadina Roll. Plus it had lobster in it. I can never say no to Lobster. The Spadina roll contains Lobster, Lettuce, Avocado, Tempura bits, and Tobiko. Apparently *real* lobster too. Nothing fake about this. I rounded out my meal with the ubiquitous Coke and Edamame. Miso and Tea were provided before I even ordered, and both were pretty good. I don’t eat miso much, but I’ll never pass up tea.

The sushi was pretty darn good. One piece in I knew the lobster was real, and I could taste each individual ingredient. Nothing clashed. No after tastes, and I polished off the roll pretty darn quick. I should have ordered another one, but I had frozen food with me, and I didn’t want to linger too long lest my hot pot meat defrost. The orange for afters was a nice touch too, peeled and quartered with a toothpick.

Service was quick and unobtrusive. The traditional greeting when you walked in the door was there, and all around it was pleasant service in a pleasant place.

All of this for $12.35 + tax. Though they have a number of lunch specials from 12-5 for $5.99

Thumbs up!
