Sushi Queen
204 Queen St. West
Thursdays (or Fridays) are the weekly lunch with my sister Laura. She happens to work about a 5 minute walk away and when it came decision time for what to eat, she chose Sushi. My sister, the enabler. So the kind of food was decided and the choice of restaurant was up to me. I pass by Sushi Queen on my way home from work just about every day, and the neon glow of the sign attracted me like a moth to the bug zapper.
The selection and pricing are pretty standard for downtown Sushi, which is to say moderately priced and an excellent selection. This time around Laura went with the Vegetable Sushi Set ($9.95) and I grabbed a San Francisco Roll ($4.95) and a Spider Roll ($8.95). I’ll try and get Laura to comment on her choice. But my choices were pretty good. The San Francisco roll, chosen for my peeps in the San Francisco office at Organic contained Shrimp, Tobiko, Cucumber, and Mayo. Basically an “upscale” California roll. The Shrimp was real as opposed to imitation crab meat, though a bit bland. Good over all, but the mayo kinda muted the other flavours a bit. The Spider Roll (Soft Shell Crab, cucumber, tobiko, avocado and mayo) was a little light on the crab, but contained enough flavourful ingredients to overcome the mayo. The generous amount of Tobiko probably helped a lot.
Thumbs up. Nice decor, good service, and a quick meal.

The veggie options are adequate – the vegetable sushi set was satisfying, and the marinated, stuffed tofu was very tasty! Food came fast and was just the right amount – as opposed to the other veg sushi combo option, which contained 18 pieces of sushi! Yowie.
I’d eat here again. Plus the tables all had really pretty Japanese dolls lined up along the walls. I’m a sucker for cool dolls.
