Sushi Tower

Sushi Tower
374a Yonge St.

Oh my poor feet. Since we had a blast of a thunderstorm this morning, when I ventured out of my cave I decided I’d wear some shoes that if it did start to rain again, I wouldn’t care if they got soaked. So on went the Converse All-Stars. Man those things are hard when you have a long walk. A long walk this afternoon I did have. I had to stop at the office to grab my camera and some odds and ends, and decided once I had finished up there that it was just in time for a spot of lunch.

Google said there was a place at Yonge and Adelaide, a mere 15 minute walk from the office so off I went. Oh right, it’s Sunday. The place is closed. Well, there are plenty of places on Yonge, I’ll just walk up the street and stop at the first place that appeals. Well, all told it took a whole 30 minutes and 2km. Not far in the grand scheme of things, but a lifetime in horrid shoes.

Bad shoes maybe, but darn good food. I passed one place before encountering Sushi Tower. Nice sign and logo, restaurant looks clean through the big glass window/wall, the menu looks reasonably priced, I’m sold. There was a fair bit to choose from and I do admit that I had to fall back on my “close the eyes and point at the menu” to complete my order. Sometimes when you have too many choices, your mind just overloads. I decided that after Fridays not-sushi-pizza, I’d see what these guys did with a Salmon Pizza. The University roll sounded appealing, and I’d never had a roll with asparagus, at least that I’m aware of. See, I don’t like asparagus. But if it’s in sushi, it can’t be bad can it? Apparently, asparagus passes the taste test in Sushi!

The menu had mentions of both Kani and Crab Meat, so I figured I had cracked the code. The University roll ($6.99) is made up of Salmon, Shrimp, Asparagus, Crabmeat, Mayo, and Tobiko. Sadly, it would appear that Kani and Crabmeat are used interchangeably, and both are Crab Stick. Still, when the roll appeared I thought “Now thats like it! Look at all that seafood!” The rolls were stuffed silly with Salmon and Crab Stick. Sadly, the promised Shrimp was nowhere to be found. I’m not sure if I read the menu wrong or not, but no matter. It was very tasty and very reasonably priced for the stuffed-ness.

The Salmon Pizza ($6.99) was a tad on the disappointing side, but not for a bad reason. In fact, to bring it right up to par you would have had to have taken away a bit! The rice patty was just too thick. Now at an All You Can Eat place, I’d not be surprised. But this was a-la carte. Recommendation: Reduce the thickness of the patty by 1/4 and throw a bit more mayo on that. But you can’t deny the generosity of it. Lots of rice, lots of salmon, and you could barely see it for the tobiko. The tobiko actually made it quite fun to photograph, made for a good picture.

Yep, I left Sushi Tower full and happy. Good quality, good pricing, and lightning quick service. Both my belly and my brain is very happy!
